Barbara Jean Ferri, LCSW (she/her)
My name is Barbara, and I am a multiethnic, Latina therapist based in Colorado. I founded Solum Life Therapy with a focused mission: to create a secure, nurturing space where clients can confront challenging life events and cultivate enriched relationships and well-being in their everyday lives. I specialize in therapy for trauma, anxiety and depression, life transitions, and relationship issues. I believe that all people deserve to feel happy and have the capacity to improve their lives with the right supports. Since 2007, I've been dedicated to partnering with those on the path to emotional well-being, greater life satisfaction, and fulfilling relationships.
I call the Colorado Rocky Mountains home, and I enjoy the tranquility of living in a rural community at this phase of my life. I find joy and healing in nature and staying active with my dog. However, for the majority of my life I was a city person living in Southern California enjoying nightlife, the art scene, live music, and living near the ocean. I remember my young adult years as filled with turmoil, substance abuse, and tumultuous relationships. I can see how my childhood wounds kept me in a state of emotional dysregulation and self-criticism. I was a high achiever and hard worker, despite my struggles, and I never felt like I was enough. In 2014, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that catapulted me to transform my life and give myself the peace that my body was craving.
Thanks to a commitment to myself and EMDR therapy, I am now a well-adjusted person who invested many years in healing my nervous system from the effects of trauma. Having navigated my own journey through mental health recovery, I understand the complexities of confronting the past and learning to love yourself. My lived experience informs how I practice therapy and enhances my ability to empathize with my clients.

My Approach
I have a wide array of personal life experiences, combined with nearly 2 decades of professional experience, education, and training. My educational background is in human development and social work. I enjoy learning to understand people as whole individuals with many different parts and influences in their lives. I strongly believe in the importance of early attachment and childhood experiences. Those early experiences have the ability to affect the way we connect with others and cope with stress in adulthood. I believe I am an effective counselor in helping people through life changes, struggles in relationships, dating, recovering and coping with trauma, stress, anxiety, and depression.
When we talk, you'll notice that I ask questions about many different aspects of your life to gain a full understanding of who you are. The relationship we develop will be based in non-judgment, support, and compassion. At the same time, I am a great coach and can offer guidance through life challenges and decision making. My approach would be considered holistic, and I am open to having spiritual discussions about the role your beliefs play in your life. You may find my approach to be more personal than other therapists. I don't mind sharing my personal experience using holistic healing methods, such as, mindfulness for stress reduction, healthy nutrition, yoga, and the great outdoors. My hope is that our work together will help you love and accept yourself by recognizing your personal strengths, building confidence, and having more successes in your relationships.
It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life. Congratulations on taking the first step in taking care of your personal and emotional needs.
I look forward to working with you.
